Dr. David F. Jimenez, M.D.

David F. Jimenez, MD is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery in the School of Medicine at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. He received his B.A. in psychobiology from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1980 and his M.D. from the Temple University School of Medicine in 1985. He completed his general surgery internship and neurosurgery residency at Temple University Hospital and was neurosurgery chief resident in 1990-91. Further training included a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery and a fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Jimenez came to the Health Science Center from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, where he was a faculty member from 1992 to 2004. He served in many roles, including co-director of the pediatric neuro-oncology program at Children’s Hospital, director of the neurosurgery training residency program, co-director of the Center for Craniofacial Disorders at Children’s Hospital, and director of the surgical epilepsy program in the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics.

His clinical interests in general neurosurgery include complex adult spine cases, brain tumors, epilepsy and peripheral nerve surgery. His interests in pediatric neurosurgery include craniofacial surgery, brain tumors, epilepsy and congenital cranial deformities.

His many awards and honors include America’s Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, Top Doctors in San Antonio - Pediatric Neurosurgeon, the Continuing Education Award in Neurosurgery from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Service Quality Award from University of Missouri Health Care. With his wife, Constance M. Barone, M.D., Dr. Jimenez has pioneered minimally invasive surgery for the congenital abnormality craniosynostosis. He and his wife created a multidisciplinary team to surgically treat disadvantaged children in the Philippines during the 1990s. He is listed 65 peer-reviewed publications in the field of neurosurgery.

Dr. Constance M. Barone, M.D.

Constance M. Barone, MD, FACS is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery in the School of Medicine at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. She received her B.A. from Smith College in Northampton and her M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She completed her general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital and her plastic surgery residency at New York University Medical Center. Further training included a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Barone came to the Health Science Center from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, where she was a faculty member from 1992 to 2004. She served in many roles, including co-director of the Center for Craniofacial Disorders at the Children’s Hospital.

She is a proven leader and innovator of endoscopic techniques and holds a national as well as an international reputation in Plastic Surgery. She strongly believes in educating her patients so that they can play an active role in choosing the best procedure(s) that will fit their needs.

Her many awards and honors include numerous Best Doctors in America awards and America’s Top Surgeons in Plastic Surgery. She has been featured on Discovery Health, Good Morning America, Texas Monthly, San Antonio Magazine, SA Living, and Seventeen Magazine. With her husband, David F. Jimenez, MD, Dr. Barone has pioneered minimally invasive surgery for the congenital abnormality craniosynostosis. She and her husband created a multidisciplinary team to surgically treat disadvantaged children in the Philippines during the 1990s.
